The theme of the meeting held on 13th December was a Members Forum entitled 'Memories of Christmas'.
Items brought in were a Japanese bamboo Christmas card which had been sent by a merchant seaman to his mother in South Shields around 1930, and an embroidered Christmas card sent by a 'mysterious uncle' during WW1, and how, with the help of the Society and its members with the research, the uncle was identified. We also talked about memories of attending midnight mass and some of the various churches located in South Shields.
The group also took the opportunity to discuss possible venues for the Branch visit in June 2018 and also speakers for future meetings. All of this was 'washed down' with an enjoyable coffee and mince pie.
